How to Care for Leather

FOR LEATHER

OROTON LEATHER CARE PRODUCTS

TREATMENT ONE - CLEANSE

Cleaning your leather products regularly can prevent dirt and dust from becoming embedded in the leather, which can cause the material to dry out and become brittle.
We are introducing a NEW Leather Shampoo product to our leather care product lineup that is Made in Australia. This is an effective yet gentle foaming cleanser for removing dirt and marks from leather and leaves your bags cleansed and refreshed whilst preserving the natural beauty and durability of the leather.

This product is also great for our more coated leathers in collections such as MUSE or INEZ which were developed to be more resistant to scratches and wear.
These types of leathers have a more coated barrier which doesn’t require conditioning or protection but would be perfect candidates from a light shampoo rejuvenation.

HOW TO USE IT

1. SHAKE - To use this product, we begin by shaking our Leather shampoo well prior to use and ensure your piece is clean and free from dust.
2. APPLY PRODUCT ON CLOTH - Apply two small drops onto a clean, dry, colourfast microfibre cloth.
3. TEST - Test the product on a small, inconspicuous area of the surface to ensure compatibility and to check for any adverse reactions. Wait for the test area to dry and inspect for any discoloration or damage.
4. TREAT EACH PANEL, GENTLE CIRCULAR -Treating one panel at a time, apply evenly and massage into the leather using a gentle, circular motion. Re-apply cleaning product to the cloth as necessary.
5. LEAVE TO DRY - Leave to dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight.

This process can be repeated as necessary or on average of about once a week if the client is using the bag daily, or monthly if used on a more intermittent basis. You
can also use the shampoo on footwear, belts, and jackets. It is ideal for smooth & grained leather, synthetic leather, suede and nubuck, rubber, canvas and microfibre.

TREATMENT TWO - NOURISH

Our leather conditioner works as a further intensive hydration and cleanse, at it protects, cleanses, polishes and preserves more uncoated leathers such as those found in our MARGOT, EMILIA and DYLAN ranges.
The leather used in these types of products have a higher leather porosity, which are more prone to becoming brittle, drying out and cracking. This product is perfect for these leather types in ensuring the leather stays supple and soft. With this level of moisturising intensity however, we do not recommend using it on suede or nubuck.

HOW TO USE IT

1. SHAKE – We start off by shaking the leather conditioner bottle well to ensure the product is properly mixed.
2. CLEAN SURFACE - Ensure that the leather surface is clean and free from any dirt or debris by completing Treatment 1 – Clean first.
3. APPLY PRODUCT ON CLOTH - Apply a small amount of leather conditioner onto a dry microfibre cloth.
4. TEST PRODUCT - Test the product on a small, inconspicuous area of the surface to ensure compatibility and to check for any adverse reactions. Wait for the test area to dry and inspect for any discoloration or damage.
5. TREAT EACH PANEL, GENTLE CIRCULAR - Gently rub the cloth onto the leather surface, using circular motions. Ensure that the conditioner is evenly distributed and covers the entire leather area.
6. LEAVE TO DRY - Leave to dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight.
7. BUFF WITH DRY CLOTH - Once the treatment has been absorbed, buff with a clean dry cloth to remove any excess.

We recommend applying two coats allowing dry time in between to ensure your piece is well nourished
This process can be repeated on a monthly basis if the client is using their bag on a daily, or up to 3 months if the bag is being used more infrequently. We certainly do not recommend constant usage over short periods of time as it is an intensive formulation that may accelerate discolouration.

TREATMENT THREE - PROTECT

Once the leather is prepped with a cleanse and nourish, we want to further lock and set that in with the Stain and Rain Protector. This product creates a long-lasting, breathable and protective layer that repels moisture, dirt and oil. This treatment also aids in cleaning and prevents stains from forming.

HOW TO USE IT

1. CLEAN SURFACE - Start by ensuring that the surface you want to protect is clean and free of any dirt, dust, or stains by undergoing Treatment 1 – ‘Clean’. IF Treatment 2 ‘Nourish’ is also being undertaken, make sure that the surface is dry and the conditioner product has completely set.
2. SHAKE - Shake the stain and rain protector bottle well to ensure the product is properly mixed.
3. TEST- Test the product on a small, inconspicuous area of the surface to ensure compatibility and to check for any adverse reactions. Wait for the test area to dry and inspect for any discoloration or damage.
4. APPLY PRODUCT, SPRAY 6-8 INCHES AWAY - Once you are satisfied with the test area results, apply the stain and rain protector evenly to the surface. Hold the bottle approximately 6-8 inches away from the surface and spray in a sweeping motion. Make sure to cover the entire surface, ensuring that no areas are left untreated. Pay extra attention to high-risk areas that are more prone to stains or water exposure.
5. LEAVE TO DRY - Allow the product to dry completely. This may take anywhere from a few hours to overnight, depending on the product.
6. WATER TEST - Once the surface is dry, you can perform a water test to check the effectiveness of the protector. Sprinkle a few drops of water on the treated surface and observe if the water beads up and rolls off instead of being absorbed.
The frequency of use for the stain and rain protector is recommended to line up with the usage frequency of our nourish treatment. After applying this third product, we come to the end of our leather care regimen.

A GUIDE TO OROTON LEATHERS:

Buttery soft leathers are part of our heritage, and we take enormous pride in the quality and craftsmanship of our accessories. Here, a guide to their different textures and characteristics and how best to take care of them:

Pebble Grain Leather is a thicker and supple leather which is exceptionally durable thanks to its wonderful pebbly-grain finish.

Care: Dust the leather’s surface and use Oroton Water & Stain Protector regularly. Oroton Leather Conditioner can also be used to remove stains and maintain the condition of the leather.

Smooth Leather is a smooth-surfaced, full-bodied leather which is known for its suppleness and gorgeous soft feel.

Care: Apply Oroton Water & Stain Protector and use Oroton Leather Conditioner to lift surface dirt and light scratches. Smooth leather will develop an aged appearance over time and the colour may also darken with wear.

Saffiano Leather has a very distinct, embossed crosshatch pattern on its surface, which is particularly durable, and near scratch- and water-resistant.

Care: Use Oroton Water & Stain Protector initially and then apply Oroton Leather Conditioner to buff out any marks.
