HOW TO NAVIGATE THE PARTY SEASON

Love, or something like it, is in the air, bringing with it a sense of romance, lightness and nostalgic glamour. It’s a mood that we’re caught up in, in part because it’s a thrill to embrace the busyness of the holiday season, the event invitations, the dinner parties and the weddings, but also because it’s a great fashion moment – one in which printed sundresses, lace shifts and silk gowns make a case for dressing up again.

HOW TO NAVIGATE THE PARTY SEASON

The way we dress for work has changed: with more of an emphasis on comfort and function we’re relying on accessories, more than ever, to pull our looks together. Enter the Margot bag collection – a discreet-chic line-up of polished yet practical handbags designed to marry work with weekend.

On the Oroton runway, the clues were easy to decode: there was a sense of bright energy, a charged display of colour, art and airy silhouettes with hemlines that sometimes swept the floor. Drama! Softness! Chic dresses with sleeves! What really stood out, though, was the promise of possibility: here were clever, wearable solutions that you could style up or down to suit every dress code.

Lace, for example, is a major theme of the season – think cocktail hour reimagined. Seen on Sundresses, Shifts and a sweet Camp Shirt and Skirt ensemble, the decorative handwork serves as a nod to both modern craft and the house’s heritage. The line-up is all the more compelling for its unexpected hits of Foxglove pink and Garden green.

There are also botanical prints to delight in. Take the sweeping silk twill gown, a spectacular statement dress made in the season’s whimsical Summer Vegetable motif (black tie). Or fall in love with the Silk Day Dress stamped in a soft, vintage-inspired Daisy print (garden party), along with the pretty Posie Print Dress pinned at the back with long bow ties (gallery opening). As far as fashion and art goes, it doesn’t get more heavenly.

Which brings us to the silk Column Shirt Dress in shades of pink and Pear. There’s much to love about its divine belted shape and cloudlike sleeves, and the way it strikes a balance between glamour and functionality with its button-through detailing and neat front pockets. Freedom to move and dance the night away? That really is the dream.
