JEWELLERY GUIDE

Take Care to Keep your Jewellery Sparkling

Whether your collection consists of special pieces that honour and celebrate milestones or statement-making jewels worn on high rotation, you’ll need to take a few steps to maintain maximum shine and lustre. Here, our ultimate guide to looking after your OROTON jewellery.

HOW TO CLEAN GOLD AND SILVER JEWELLERY

Start by taking on a regular jewellery care routine – the oils and chemicals found in moisturisers and perfumes leave behind a residue which dulls and tarnishes your jewels. Prevention is key: allow your skincare application to dry before accessorising, and be sure to gently buff your jewellery with a soft cloth at the end of each day to remove any oils that may cause oxidation over time. Alternatively, use a cleaning solution and pat dry the metal after use. We also recommend storing your delicate pieces in a jewellery box to maintain their lustre and keep them dust free.

HOW TO UNTANGLE YOUR NECKLACES

Fine silver and gold chain necklaces have a habit of tangling into the most chaotic knots – hanging them on a jewellery rack or storing them in a compartment box is the long-term fix, but in the meantime try using two sewing pins to carefully tease apart the centre knot. Place the chain on a smooth surface, moving the pin back and forth to gradually loosen and free the tangle. To clean your chain, dampen a soft cloth and gently run it along the necklace’s entire length – as with any delicate jewellery, be sure to pat the chain dry afterwards to prevent any leftover residue from tarnishing your piece.

A SECRET TIP TO AVOID LOSING YOUR EARRINGS

From a fashion point of view, there’s nothing more frustrating than losing a precious earring. Over time, earring backs can begin to loosen, lessening the grip which keeps them from sliding off their post. A clever tip is to regularly tighten the backs by pressing on either side of each butterfly loop, drawing the loops together for more secure fastenings.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR PEARLS

There’s something magical about the natural glow of an organic pearl – indeed, OROTON’s classic Olenna collection is crafted with the most beautiful freshwater pearls. Divine in their organic form, these precious gems are remarkably durable, yet can still be vulnerable to chemicals. To maintain their natural lustre, allow any skincare application to dry first before accessorising, and polish them gently at the end of each wear with a dampened soft cloth.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR ZIRCONIA JEWELS

When caring for delicate zirconia jewels, clean them with a mildly soapy cloth, gently buffing to remove any dirt or dust that may have accumulated, and allow any perfumes and beauty applications to dry before accessorising.

STORING YOUR JEWELS

When storing your OROTON jewellery collection, take the time to stow individual pieces in cloth bags or the compartments lined in protective casings inside your jewellery box. This helps to safeguard against dust, moisture and heat; elements that over time can damage their condition. A gorgeous jewel box not only helps to organise your pieces and prevent them from scuffing, it also serves as a small mood lifter, a wonderful way of presenting your collection.
