LET’S DANCE, THE PARTY DRESSING EDIT

Here’s a happy thought: the most surprising, modern touches – feathers, lightness, illumination – are giving party dressing a fresh feel. The mood is all about creative expression and powerful beauty, a way of dressing that is free from restraints. It’s not a new idea, the design team is always thinking about how to break down codes and build a collection around confidence and personality, but what’s different is the joy in getting dressed to go out again – and doing so with oomph. To prove the point, the designers mapped out this latest collection by paring back silhouettes to their purist forms, turning unexpected textures into something beautiful, adding in drama.

Take the season’s charming new Mini Bag. What could be more irresistible than a puff of feathers in soft fondant colours, and black too? It’s a confection piece, as sweet as a French macaroon and a fun example of what can be honoured from the past and reimagined for now.

The dualling tension between the softness and precision of architectural lines is also a theme. The design team balanced out the sweetness of its accessories by adding in a shock of colour to a collection built around minimalism: Candy Pink and black for sculpted bodice dresses, bralettes and miniskirts, and a shimmer of gold to illuminate it all in the form of a beautifully tailored Overshirt. That shirt is exactly the kind of approachable, uplifting piece you could wear out Saturday night, to a chic wine bar opening, Mini Feather Bag in hand, a Negroni cocktail in the other (equal parts gin, vermouth, Campari, garnished with orange peel). It will also make a statement at your friend’s birthday dinner because it’s just so light and sparking.

Then there’s the tailored trousers, the double-breasted blazer with its rakish shoulders. The point being there’s something special about the grown-up sophistication of this latest collection, the surprising flourishes, the whimsical touches – the hidden messaging: dress up!

Couture-like effects are the finishing touch, an homage to the house’s love of craft, and another new expression of its modernity. The pink satin minidress is the most obvious clue, seen in that wonderful shade of Candy Pink, and stitched with ribboned bows. The effect is both artisanal and technical, just the kind of delicacy and spirit that feels decadent right now, like a new generation of event dressing. Time to celebrate.
