THE ART OF HOLIDAY DRESSING

If there was a backdrop to OROTON’s resort collection, it would be a little restaurant by the sea, the one that everyone talks about with the concise but delicious menu. Here, everything is relaxed and presented beautifully – a holiday vision that doesn’t just pull you in by day, but also keeps you there for the spritzes at sunset. The point is escapism, travel, romance.

It’s clear creative director Sophie Holt knows how to conjure a mood. For Summer, every design element — from the sun-bleached stripes and 70s cabana vibes to the brand’s upcoming swim collection — looks exciting, ready for travel. The Long Stripe Robe, for example, with its perfect scalloped edging, is such an elegant proposition in polished linen, yet it feels light and carefree, like wearing pyjamas by day. (A tip: the Robe appears in a number of variations this season. Think of it as the ultimate resort shape that you can wear as a neat tie-waist dress or open and layered over swim. Pure chic).

Deckchair stripes are also a major theme, seen on everything from Shirt Dresses, in Garden Green and Brandy, through to a mini Day Dress and Ric Rac Towel in matching shades of Marigold. The zinging hits of yellow, pink and green are just so uplifting, a point of difference. Add to that, airy Day Dresses in mid-weight linens and you’ve got the kind of foundation pieces to build a holiday around. And why not? After all, planning what to wear to that charming seaside restaurant is half the fun, isn’t it?

Which brings us to the art of packing – light. How freeing it is to skip through airports with nothing but a carry-on. We recommend the Margot Bag, a roomy carryall crafted from beautiful pebble leather in a warm shade of Whiskey. This weekender is a house favourite, spacious enough for your holiday edit, and you can carry it crossbody or via its adjustable top handles. Finish off the look with the Boyd Tote, another holiday must-have. We love this modern-heritage piece, stamped with the house’s embossed logo, a tribute to the archives. It’s the perfect bag for outings – antique markets, growers’ stalls, artist’s studios – just be sure to tuck a souvenir or two inside it.
