From camel to caramel, every shade of this warm, toasty colour is perfect for transitioning into fall.“On the catwalks, it came in silky, buttersoft fabrics, from leather to fine knits, at Celine, Stella McCartney and Proenza Schouler,” reports Ella Alexander at Glamour.“It's a colour that oozes luxury and tastefulness. If you want to add instant elegance to your wardrobe this season, look no further,” she adds. |
STEP 1. THE MULES
Time to ditch your flats for low-heeled mules - even better if they come in a rich camel colour, like this pair from Dear Frances.According to Kate Gordon, the Creative Director of Aska Collection, embellished flats with a block heel help capture a much-needed sense of fun and whimsy in footwear. “Shoes are becoming more playful!” Gordon told WhoWhatWear. “I see velvet and metallics continuing to be a trend, and a heavier lean into platforms and block heels.”Classic comfort in luxe colours is king.
2. THE MOTORCYCLE JACKET
Nothing says luxurious cool quite like a camel-coloured moto jacket. The colour instantly makes this edgy staple look like a million bucks. That has everything to do with the rich, caramel colour, says fashion editor Allyson Payer.“Something about this classic neutral hue brings a luxe, well-made feel to any piece, no matter the price point,” writes Payer at the WhoWhatWear blog. “As a bonus, it meshes well with nearly every other color, from basic to bold, which is why it will never go out of style. It's just as versatile as black, but it's more interesting by a mile,” she adds. But because camel-coloured leather is more difficult to make well, finding the perfect jacket for fall requires a knack - and a sizable budget, cautions fashion editor Diana Tsui. “Finding a good brown leather jacket under $1,000 can be tricky - you want the color to be really rich, not generic,” Tsui explains at The Cut. “This one [from Whistles Agnes] is that perfect shade of caramel that feels like the interior of a fancy sports car.” Thankfully, making an investment piece in a moto jacket always pays off. The silhouette can be dressed up with a pair of heels and satin trousers or dressed down with sneakers and your favourite band tee.
3. THE MIDI OR PENCIL SKIRT
Want to introduce a little edge into your officewear? You can’t do better than to think leather - especially if you’re letting down your hems. According to fashion editor Steff Yotka, midi hemlines are making a strong comeback, and designers are doing their best to make them a bit sexier. “At Rodarte, tiers of lace crept downward over frilled boots, while at Marc Jacobs feather-trim tweeds and laser-cut leather skirts ended just below the knee to reveal the designer’s teetering platforms,” Yotka writes at Vogue. We also love this look from street style star Hanneli Mustaparta, which demonstrates how to make unusual colours pop against the natural, earthy tones of a camel leather skirt. “[The] unexpected color scheme (think tan, olive, and metallic) helps make the outfit aesthetically appealing and prevent it from being too matchy-matchy,” explains Carson Olivares at WhoWhatWear. 4. THE SHIFT DRESS
If you’re feeling bold - or spendy - you can take your penchant for camel-coloured leather up a notch. Even though this shift dress from Philip Lim’s pre-fall 2015 show is a few seasons old, it highlights everything we love about what a versatile neutral this colour truly is. Even more, the fringe hem reminds us of one of the biggest trends on the runways for 2018 - and there’s no chicer way to explore it than in leather. “[Fringing] is everywhere in Paris, trimming crochet dresses at Acne Studios and body-con numbers at Balmain, shrouding the body at Nina Ricci in Sobrani cigarette pastels, and enlivening minimalist tailoring at Ellery,” reports fashion features editor Ellie Pithers at British Vogue. So get ready for all your garments to go swish! this fall.
If you’re looking for a way to transition a staple like the crossbody bag out of summer and into fall, look no further than camel-coloured leather. The rich, caramel colour elevates the functional design of the crossbody into something special, which is why Nicole Phelps, the director of Vogue Runway, makes it her go-to. “I appreciate its simplicity, its weekday-to-weekend possibilities, and its relatively small size,” says Phelps of the silhouette. “Like everybody, I tend to accumulate a lot of unnecessary junk in my bag, but in this one, I won’t be able to,” she adds. “In the spring and summer it’s good to feel as unencumbered as possible.” From our catalogue: Don’t miss our most stunning piece for the new season, the Avalon Zip Top Crossbody in Cognac. Crafted from pebble grain leather, this bag has just enough room to organise all your essentials and maintain the elegant silhouette of your wardrobe.
6. THE BOOTIES
As the summer heat begins to fade, it’s time to break out your booties. On the runway, we’re seeing trends like slouchy boots and bright colours hit the catwalks - but you can’t go wrong with a classic shade of caramel-coloured suede, either. The theme for this season, according to fashion editor Alexis Bennett, is to have a little fun with your footwear. “You can go all out with interesting silhouettes, shine bright with blinding embellishments, and turn heads with standout patent leather finishes,” Bennett writes at InStyle. Camel-coloured leather never looked so good. The bucket bag might be taking a slight backseat to mini totes and sleek clutches on the runways, but this classic silhouette in buttery suede leather is a perfect fit for fall. Over at InStyle, fashion editor Stephanie Araujo recommends camel suede boot-and-bag combinations if you want to find your inner flower child. “Embrace the '70s trend with a fringed tote and thigh-high camel suede boots,” Araujo suggests. Wear it all at once, or sneak pieces into your work wardrobe to remind you of whatever brings you peace, love, and happiness.
