OROTON LIFE
OUR CARBON OFF-SET JOURNEY
At Oroton we are finding ways to lessen our impact on the planet by beginning to off-set our carbon footprint. To do this, we have partnered with Clima, a platform that allows our customers to contribute to one of three environmental and climate change projects.
OCTOBER 2024
OCEAN CRUSADERS
Ocean Crusaders is a valuable asset to the global effort to protect the oceans. Their work is essential to raising awareness about the threats facing the oceans and inspiring people to take action to protect them. This Australian-based non-profit organisation is dedicated to protecting and preserving the oceans. They work to achieve this mission through a combination of education, awareness-raising, and direct action. The organisation has educated millions of people about the importance of protecting the oceans and has removed thousands of tonnes of debris from our waterways.
ALLEENA
Location: New South Wales, Riverina
The Alleena project covers 497.58 hectares and has been a dedicated conservation reserve since 2020. The project aims to preserve habitat for 98 bird species, many of which, like the Dusky Woodswallow, rely on fragmented woodland ecosystems for survival. The project fosters landscape connectivity, supporting species movement and habitat for threatened birds such as the Brown Treecreeper, Gilbert’s Whistler, and Superb Parrot. With 171 native plant species, including the vulnerable Spiny Peppercress, the area also supports native mammals like the Yellow-footed Antechinus and Dunnart species.
COORONG PROJECT
Location: South of Meningie, South Australia
The Coorong Lakes Project, is managed by Cassinia Environmental in partnership with the Ngarrindjeri people as a conservation reserve. The project complements the significant wetland systems of Lake Alexandrina, Lake Albert, and the Coorong Lagoons, preserving a rich diversity of ecosystems, from saline wetlands to mallee woodlands. Home to 64 bird species, including the rare Purple-gaped Honeyeater, the project focuses on landscape protection, habitat connectivity, and community partnerships. With 223 native plant species, including the endangered Slender Smoke-bush and over 30 native orchid species, Coorong Lakes is a vital remnant of intact vegetation in a heavily cleared agricultural region.
ADDITIONAL PROJECTS
300MW SOLAR PV PLANT
The large-scale solar energy project by Clean Solar Power (Bhadla) Pvt. Ltd generates renewable electricity, reducing GHG emissions by 693,327 tCO2e annually. It displaces 741,845 MWh/year of fossil-fuel-based electricity from India's power grid. The project supports Decent Work and Economic Growth, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Climate Action by contributing to sustainable economic growth, ensuring access to clean energy, and significantly reducing carbon emissions.
