Brighten Up! Five Ways To Wear Chartreuse

Can fashion truly lift your spirits? OROTON’s Sophie Holt is convinced. For her Autumn-Winter collection, the Creative Director has introduced a neon-bright shade of Chartreuse and it’s hitting all the right notes. Here, five ways to embrace the look.

If Sophie Holt’s design studio is any indication, a jolt of colour – and the idea of really immersing in it – is key right now. It’s a switch up from previous seasons where tone-on-tone layering prevailed, but if you listen to the OROTON Creative Director explain it, a confident hit of Chartreuse is the mood-boosting kicker we all need.

"

...it signals new strength, new beginnings.

– SOPHIE HOLT, CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Holt says: “The palette is joyful and free, it’s refreshing. There’s an overall sense of freedom to the collection, which comes in part from the energy of Chartreuse.” Indeed, it feels like a milestone moment, as simple as it may be, a chance to plan for the office once again or dress up for a weekend get-together. With that in mind Holt honed her looks, taking in clean-lined silhouettes such as ribbed knitted dresses and tops, collared shirts along with origami-like bags. It’s Chartreuse, though, that provides a note of joy: “This is a playful bright colour which I love, it signals new strength, new beginnings. I think it allows you to consider dressing in different ways – whether head-to-toe or in new combinations.”

So how does a minimalist approach the look? What other colours can you wear with chartreuse? Here, five ways to brighten up and embrace the colour of the moment:

1.

Think sharp rather than cloyingly sweet. For an easy entrée, start with a buttoned-up Chartreuse shirt, layered underneath a neat tan vest worn with matching pants. The look is tailored, built around the design team’s love of “set dressing” and wearing pieces in matching colours, then it riffs off the electric yellow-green.

2.

Make a bold statement in a form-flattering dress: we love the liquid fluidity of this ribbed dress, together with its play on sporty-utility themes and collegiate shapes. Pair it with a soft sculptural bag, a modern new everyday essential.

3.

Embrace our favourite combination: chic and ease. Here, the magic comes from the play on opposites – the tailored and effortless wide-leg pant teamed with a soft ribbed buttoned knit, it’s all about structure matched with languid simplicity, not to mention an oversized architectural bag that truly packs a punch. The Oroton Scout Woven Tote in Bright Chartreuse features a smooth leather design thoughtfully paired with contrast fine brass hardware for the ultimate in utility style.

4.

Need a lesson in next-level layering? When it comes to closet staples, few have more enduring appeal than a classic blazer jacket: we love the idea of experimenting with tonal suit layering in shades of tan or toffee, accented with a collared knit top, a buttoned shirt or a boxy accessory in a hit of acid-bright Chartreuse.

5.

Back to work power piece? For the ultimate in modernity, we think it has to be the Eden Crossbody in bright Chartreuse, a luxe staple crafted from premium smooth leather – smoothness, polish and sharpness all in one.
