It’s interesting when you think about how sport crosses over with style and culture these days – how do those influences come together in your own personal style (ie: how would you describe your look)?

I think I have a very relaxed look. I like to be comfortable, but also really enjoy dressing up and wearing new clothes and styles. Looking good and dressing well gives me confidence off the football pitch.

Can you tell us what stood out from Oroton’s new collection, which pieces were you drawn to and why?

I really liked the matching sets, the brown and the blue. They have a relaxed feel and are very comfortable and easy to wear. The red button up T-shirt also stood out to me as I like the bright, vibrant colour and feel it makes a great look for any occasion.

When did you realise that football was more than a passion, what do you think led to the secret behind your success?

I realised that football was more than a passion when I signed my first contract to play for Canberra United. Before this, I was just playing locally for enjoyment. Becoming a so-called professional for the first time was what really kickstarted my career. I would credit the secret to my success as hard work, determination, and most importantly a very strong mindset and mentality.

You and your team changed the way we view football here in Australia, how did it feel to be part of that shift?

I never imagined the World Cup to be as special and as incredible as it was. Being part of a team that changed and inspired the nation is something I am so proud of. Before this, becoming a household name, or being recognised walking down the street, was something I’d only have ever dreamed about. I think football in Australia has changed forever and is only going to get bigger and bigger.

What are the top lessons you’ve learned in your career for staying motivated?

Love what you do. It’s easy to motivate yourself when you enjoy what you’re doing. Also, set goals. It allows you to stay motivated because you know you’re working towards something.

What is your morning routine before a game, how do you prepare your mind and body for the moment?

My pregame routine is to rest well, stay hydrated and fuel my body to perform. I always make sure to stay calm and present. I think about the game and what I need to do to make sure I’m mentally and physically prepared to be at my best.

What is your guilty pleasure?

I love a cheeky packet of chips after a game, just plain and salted, and also chocolate, of course.

Lastly, what does winning feel like?

There is no greater feeling than winning. Especially during big games and big tournaments because so much hard work and training has gone into preparing for them. It’s like everything you have been working for has come together in that moment. I love celebrating a win with my teammates, my family and fans.
